“KOALA”
Koalas live in Queensland, New South
Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. They stay in the forest and live in
trees. The koala has grey and white hair, round ears, a big nose and small
eyes. The koala isn’t tall, their body measure 60 (sixty) centimeters to 85
(eighty five) centimeters, and weighs 4 (four) to 15 (fifteen) kilos.
Koalas eat Eucalyptus, but the leaves of
these trees don’t have energy, so koalas can sleep for twenty hours a day. They
have a sedentary life.
The koala was hunted almost to extinction
in the early 20th century, because as people wanted its fur.
Millions of fur was selling in Europe and the United State. In these days
koalas are decreasing. The biggest threat to their existence is habit
destruction due to agriculture and urbanization.
Koalas may live from thirteen to eighteen
years. At around six years of age, the koala’s chewing teeth begin to wear down
and their chewing efficiency decreases, so the animal will die of starvation or
nutritional failure.
The International Union for Conservation
of Nature has been protecting these animals.
